A gift of former Senator James Schaben, this park is nestled in the hills. It gives a sense of real seclusion, but is a great getaway close to home. Schaben Park is located two miles off Highway 30, between Woodbine and Dunlap. This little know treasure features a modern campground with electricity and water, a modern shower house, picnic shelter, playground, a fishing lake with boat ramp access, and woodland and prairie nature trails. Only electric motors are allowed on the lake. There is also a primitive, tent-only camping area next to the shower house. Public hunting is allowed in most of this area except in the developed area of the campground. While predominately woodland habitat, upland grassland habitat is also available with hunting for pheasant, quail, turkey, and deer. Trails are available for access to hunting areas.
Reservations are available for either the large or small shelter. Please call (712) 647-2785 to make a reservation. When not reserved, the shelter is on a first come, first available basis. Picnic Shelter: $30/full day and $15/half day | ||||||
